Do you know we have 4800 negative thoughts a day on average? Mostly, these intrusive voices in our head are a combination of guilt, self-judgment, and our inner critic just casually criticizing us.

The good part is, we have the power to silence these intrusive thoughts that are adamant on making us feel small, inadequate, and miserable.

Well, our brains are pretty much plastic. Brain plasticity is the ability of the brain to re-wire itself. This means nothing we do is set in stone. We have what it takes to rewire our brains and let go of what is no longer beneficial to our mental and physical well-being.

So, if you’re ready to rewire your brain and re-frame your thoughts, adopt these three mindset shifts:

The Now is the Only Moment that Matters

Staying present in the moment is not as easy as it sounds. Think about it, whenever you sit down to do something, how many other to-do tasks are running through your head? This tug of war eventually results in multitasking, distraction, and procrastination.

Learn to be in the moment because it’s the only one that matters. Allow yourself to find peace in it.

To foster this connection to the now, you can:

  • Journal more often
  • Practice yoga
  • Do mindfulness meditation

Life is Not Happening To You But For You

Re-framing your thoughts also means taking a look at how you feel about life.

Sometimes, life does feel like a challenge. You don’t get what you want, your hopes are crushed, and your heart is hurt. At times, it really does seem like the end of the world.

However, it is through reflection that you can see how life is happening for you.

Challenges force you to grow and adapt. You’ll have to be resilient when times are hard but you’ll find meaning and purpose in all of that.

Ask yourself, “what is this thing teaching me?” or “How can I appreciate the gift of this moment?”

This Is Not In the Way

Interruptions are a part of life, you can’t always control them. What you can do is reframe how you think about them.

See these moments as a part of your day rather than a disturbance or nuisance.

When you start to get frustrated, bring in the weapon of gratitude. It’s not “I have to,” it is, “I choose to.”

Remember, things are not getting in your way, they are on the way. Change your language and focus on what you do have. Whatever happens, turn it into a teachable moment.
